Health and Illness Policies

Keeping all children healthy is a shared responsibility between our staff and families.
  • Children showing signs of illness must stay home until symptom-free for 24 hours
  • Prescription medications require written authorization from both the healthcare provider and parent or guardian, and must be in the original labeled container
  • Over-the-counter medications require written parent permission. Powders and aerosols are not permitted.
  • In any medical emergency, 911 is called first. Children are transported to the nearest emergency facility.
  • Parents are responsible for medical transportation costs
  • Emergency contact cards must be kept current at all times with two authorized contacts

Meals and Snacks at Little Rebels

Little Rebels is a proud participant in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. We provide healthy, nutritious breakfast and afternoon snacks to all enrolled children at no additional cost to families.

Daily meals provided by Little Rebels:

  • Breakfast served 8:00 to 8:30 AM
  • Afternoon snack

Please note: Lunch is provided by parents. Please pack a lunch for your child each day.

All meals and snacks provided by Little Rebels meet USDA nutritional guidelines and support healthy physical development. Birthday celebrations are welcome — shared treats must be store-purchased and in the original sealed packaging.

Security and Authorized Pickup

The safety of every child is our highest priority. Our security procedures are strict and non-negotiable.
  • The building is locked at all times
  • Families receive one key fob for entry. Replacement cost is $25.
  • A doorbell is available for visitors or forgotten fobs
  • The entire facility is monitored by 24/7 camera surveillance
  • All parents and children check in and out via tablet at the classroom entrance
  • Photo ID is required for anyone picking up a child
  • Authorized pickup persons must be listed in advance — contact the center to add or change names
  • If a child is not picked up by 5:30 PM, staff will contact parents, then emergency contacts. Law enforcement will be notified if no contact is made.

Outdoor Play and Community Activities

Physical activity and time outdoors are essential parts of our daily program — even in Minnesota winters.
  • We go outside for outdoor play every day, weather permitting
  • Dress your child appropriately for the season including coats, snow pants, and boots
  • Written parental permission is required for all field trips
  • Parents are informed of destination, transportation method, and hours in advance
  • Staff carry emergency contact cards and first aid kits on all outings
  • At least one CPR-certified staff member attends every field trip
  • Community projects and special events are held throughout the year

Nap and Rest Time

Proper rest supports healthy development and helps children stay focused and happy throughout the day.
  • Infants rest according to their individual schedule
  • Toddlers and Preschoolers have one scheduled afternoon nap following lunch
  • Children who rest quietly for 30 minutes are not required to continue sleeping
  • All bedding is laundered weekly
  • Infants follow strict safe sleep guidelines: placed on their backs, in DHS-approved cribs, with no items in the crib except a pacifier
  • Sleeping infants are visually checked by staff every 10 to 15 minutes

Positive Behavior Guidance

At Little Rebels, we believe children learn best in an environment where they feel respected and safe. We use positive guidance techniques to help children develop self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Our approach includes:

  • Redirection toward appropriate behaviors and activities
  • Natural and logical consequences that are age-appropriate
  • Collaborative problem-solving with children
  • Clear, consistent expectations communicated with warmth
  • Regular communication with families when behavioral patterns arise
  • Development of individualized behavior plans in collaboration with parents when needed

We never use physical punishment, shaming, isolation as punishment, or any method that demeans or frightens a child.

Meet Cannon — Our Center Pet

Little Rebels has a beloved family pet — Cannon, a friendly and gentle toy poodle who visits classrooms to bring joy and a sense of warmth to our children. Children learn responsible and kind interaction with animals under full staff supervision at all times.

Please inform us if your child has any allergies or fears related to dogs.
